First of all: This is one great idea! The combination of magical, ancient-looking items with high tech inside is awesome!

I don’t know if this is possible and if there is enough space inside, but it would be a great new feature if the wand might be equipped with Bluetooth (or sth. equivalent) to use it as a kind of mouse replacement on your computer – similar to the MX Air from Logitech. Possibly a good alternative to controla a media center PC in a wizard’s home. :)

Somehow, bluetooth compatability with the PS3 should be available… I want to control my blu-rays…. perhaps you could point it at a… familiar..eh?

You can already control computers with it. Any Mac that is equipped by default with a Front Row remote and Windows PCs for instance with several available IR-dongles.
(e.g. Keyspan DMR & Express Receivers, MCE (eHome) 2005 Receivers)

How about using two of these wands to knit a scarf with super-bulky yarn? And watching what the movement of the wand will do to your TV ;)

I would like to be able to turn lights on and off with a wand… you know, like “The Clapper,” except way less dorky. (Or more dorky… not sure which.) Perhaps a plug-in unit that was controlled by the wand would do the trick.

There are IR-controlled light switches (as shown in this video). But you can also buy light bulb sockets that have a IR-receiver built in.

I’m a college student. The thing that drives me the most insane is when the students in front of me in a lecture are facebooking or youtubing or gchatting or whatever. I get distracted looking over their shoulders! I would use my wand to take control of their computers and write a note telling them to pay attention!

Ooooh what I’d give to use a Kimera Wand (or any magic wand) to control my children… however.. since all the magic in the world probably can’t accomplish that (ok, don’t get me wrong they’re great kids.. but we’ve got less than two weeks till christmas.. they’re ANTSY)… I’d settle for a wand to control the tv.. I can NEVER find the remote!

I’d love more than 13 functions (though that’s a lot of different movements). Some sort of tabletop holder/stand would be nice too, to prevent rolling off the coffee table. Multiple wand styles coming any time soon?

The Kymera Wand could provide use with my PS3. It would be so cool playing a game using the various wand movements. So instead of using a gun to kill people in war…. well, you get the idea. :)

I’m getting all geeky thinking about it! Oh, and maybe I can use the wand to control my Netflix queue on the PS3.

So, on a Friday night, I will *swish* turn off the lights, turn on the TV and PS3 *swish*, navigate to a favorite movie on Netflix *swish*, and then enjoy. All thanks to the power of the Kymera Wand. :)

I would love to be able to work an iTouch or iPhone with this. I tend to lose mine around the house and making it ring or play music from just the wand would be helpful.

Other than that, if I’m being lazy and want music, I could start it without moving.

It would be a great anti theft device for cars. With an IR receiver the engine would only start after the correct gesture!

Pretty cool idea! 13 commands seems like a lot, but it might be cool to have an accessory number pad you could wave at; with today’s satellite TVs and 300+ channels, merely changing the channel up and down isn’t always as useful as being able to put in the number.

Humanity des the beginning of its existence is facina with the idea of magic and with the possibility of becoming a reality with the emergence of new technologies. Thus we see that Kymera Wand unite into one product the magic that since our infancy is dormant within us and the technology that inhabits our daily lives.
A large ENEWAL would be the possibility to work with it with the pc as a flash drive so could lead music and filesdir together

No doubt you’re probably already contemplating Mark II of this über cool gadget of yours.
For the next generation (whenever that is), I think a few more movements -and thus functions- would be great addition, like, tracing in the air a large circular loop clockwise, and the same anti-clockwise (as opposed to just twisting the wand around it’s axis); drawing an “S” or “Z” in the air (hey, Zorro!); drawing an “M” or “W” in the air; drawing an “L” or “7″ in the air, and maybe triple taps for both axes. That would add 7 new movements for a grand total of 20.
Please, never add buttons or switches to it!

This wand is such an ingenious idea. Great way to keep up with the times in style! I think one awesome application to the wand would be if you could port it over to use with the Nintendo Wii and play games with the wand. I like the idea of making it work with a smart home (IE, light switches and garage doors and all sorts of fun applications. Thanks for making this great product!!

I like the idea that Mr. Higginbotham mentioned about allowing the wand to recognize when drawing a letter or number. I think the number idea would be great to sync with the remote controllers numbers to be able to input the numbers manually to change a channel or radio station, rather than just flipping through them.

This is really a great idea. I’ve been playing around with a wand of wood many times, but never one as magical as the Kymera Wand is.
I really think it could be awesome if you could make your own commands. I also think longer commands could be nice – For example swinging the wand twice in the air.
Maybe it could also be possible to switch between modes… For example you could have 13 commands for your music-player, and another 13 commands for your television. Then you could switch between them with a new command.
Again, this is a great idea.. I can’t wait until I can control some of my devices at home in this really cool magical way!

Ever since I took a course called Battling Against Voldemort in college, I have been in perpetual need of a magic wand to protect myself from the Dark Lord and defend the world against his Death Eater minions. I’ve tried invisibility cloaks , all manner of potions and portkeys , and I’ve even attempted to convince a few magical creatures to team up with me. All these efforts proved to be in vain. But then I stumbled upon the Kymera Wand and I now believe that my troubles might soon be over!

I love what everyone’s said so far, and I hope to read even more amazing ideas. The following are my suggestions:

Novel uses for Kymera Wand

• Unlocking the car: Tap the lock with the wand and say “Alohomora!”

• Simplifying a lecture or presentation: Imagine, rather than having multiple remote controls, a slide clicker, and a power pad, you could have one single Kymera Wand controlling room lights, powerpoint slide transitions, and audio! Not to mention it would make a lovely pointer (especially if equipped with a laser on the tip!).

• Rock Band-inspired Harry Potter Adventure Game: I envision someone on a broomstick, directing the character in the right direction, then someone with a microphone saying the right spells, and someone with the Kymera Wand, doing the right jabs and swishes to activate the spells. It’d be the most realistic wizardry simulation game ever!

Wish List for Kymera Wand 2.0:

• Make a collapsible “travel” model so people can carry it with them when on the go

• Voice recognition + laser pointer on tip – The ability to scream “Avada Kedavra” and have a jet of red light come out the end of my wand would be unspeakably amazing.

• An ultra-bright LED tip + voice recognition would also be nice. I can see it now: I’ve tragically misplaced my wand, and instead of scouring the house from top to bottom, I could merely call out “LUMOS” and voila, the wand lights up to alert me to its whereabouts!

• Capacity for mass-storage: Every wand is unique to the Wizard who owns it, so why not make it so every Kymera Wand-possessing wizard can store his files on his personal USB-equipped wand? Heck, why not go bluetooth? Swish your wand at your computer and it immediately recognizes you.

• I definitely second Paul Higginbotham’s alphanumeric shape recognition suggestion. The more ways of manipulating your wand, the more exciting it will be.

Advertising Tips

• Give some out to university professors to try in their classes. If you can get one prof at each major university to use it in front of a lecture hall of 400+ students, the Wand’s popularity will spread like wildfire.

• If possible, advertise it in conjunction with the upcoming release of Harry Potter 7 in theaters. When the HP7 movie frenzy begins, everyone who sees your ad will NEED their very own Kymera Wand!

Website Improvements

• Add more robust posting options like font manipulations, bullets/indentations, and the ability to publish hyperlinks.

Thanks, and keep up the great work!

A scabbard with a built in dampener would be a great accessory for the Kymera, so you could carry it around without it going off all the time. I’d also like to see The Wand Company/or a Kymera Wand Owner group on Facebook so I could become a fan/member.

I’m going to embrace my inner nerd and throw my name into the hat for this ridiculously amazing toy.

As for improvements, a bluetooth capable wand would allow me to use this wand with my PS3! I use my PS3 predominantly as a media server and the wand would be PERFECT for scrolling through my music/movies/photos. Would probably be much more intuitive than even the remote.

I LOVE this wand thingy… it would give me a chance to out nerd even my nerdiest of friends.

I know it’s reprogrammable, but it would be really nice if there were a way to have multiple remotes programmed into it at once so you could switch back and forth between the two. That way you could turn on your tv and then switch to a different remote and use it to turn on your lights. Or, if you have more than one tv with different remotes, you can program both in and instead of constantly reprogramming it between the two, just have both saved and be able to tell it which one to use. That would make it a lot more versatile.

You can program as many remotes as you want into the wand at once. You could even put 13 different remotes with one command each onto the thirteen gestures of the wand.

Voice recognition, but not just for effects as mentioned by Yetorico (hey, nice comment :-)
but rather to be able to control multiple devices;use voice to “enforce” wand actions;make user dependent recognition training more enjoyable (feel like Barry Hotter finding the right intonation for his spells);switch between devices via voice command; save macros (combining several
commands for several devices) as user defined “spells” .

I loved this! When I discovered it, I showed it to all of my friends and told anyone who I could about it. In terms of suggestions, I feel Yetórico covered many of the ones I wanted to make, but I would like to include an idea that expands that of opening a car door with “alohamora” to being able to open the front door of a house the same way. Furthermore, I would like to see a “putter-outer” as an accessory/ companion product. In the electronics age, where more things can be controlled via items not connected, I feel that this is possible. I don’t know what would be required for this, but to have a little lighter, that by clicking I could make the lights go out or come on with would be fun.
Another idea, is that there be different designs for the wands, so that if a person wants more than one, to control different items, it would be easier to differentiate which wand does what.
Thanks for making this! It really makes me happy to be alive in this day and age!

It would be cool to use The Wand to revolutionize security. Imagine having an IR-enabled door lock or electronic safe to open only after the correct combination of swishes and flicks are done. Much like the real Alohomora! Furthermore, it would be great to have things the other way around: The Wand having a “teaching mode” to be used for various applications. It may complement other “learning” devices to respond to the Wand gestures.

An accessory I would like to see is a stand that would give the illusion that the wand is levitating . Something like that wine bottle holder that is a length of chain with all the links welded together. It looks like a loose chain draped over the bottle that appears to float five inches above the table.

As a DJ it would be great if I could use the wand to mix my music and scratch with it on CDJ players!

Imagine the performance possibilities if I could do a gig from start to finish with the wand without having to touch the equipment.

Look guys, mixing with no hands!

It would be nice if the wand operated via radiowaves to a controlbox that send the IR-signals to the electronics that are to be controlled. That way you dont have to have the electronics visible or even in the same room.

And you don´t have to care where you point the wand.

And of course the box is onlined via USB or, more costly, bluetooth.

The ability to make macro commands is an absolute nescessity if you are to be able to control more than a TV or DVD.

To be able to make longer and combined moves, the wand should be pressure activated. Not by a button, but by gripping the wand a little harder and release when the command is completed. That wat combined commands are possible without making the command response slow.

Incidentally, as an addendum to my previous comment…I’m a student at Harvard, and I solemnly swear that I’m up to no good, and that I will make sure to film my takeover of my classmate’s computers. (Or, even better, take over the professor’s computer/powerpoint lecture, and direct it to your website.)

I agree with Max that the wand should have voice recognition. The wand would be a thousand times cooler if it could learn “spells”.

Another thing that could be done is to create commands with more swishes and flicks. It would be cool if the user could have more detailed movements like a flick left and then flick right. It would create more command options and it would be more realistic for the user.

What I really want is for different styles of wands to come out. Each wizard or witch has a unique wand, and it would be awesome if Kymera could provide more options to its customers.

A unique advertising solution would be to create stories for each of your wand options. In Harry Potter, each wand is made up of a specific wood and core material. Kymera could become Ollivander’s quite easily if they gave different “cores” and “woods” for their products.

More videos on the wand would be good for YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter because then people would get to see the wands being used in creative ways. Plus they would be fun to retweet.

I think what is missing is a small video camera at the tip of the wand, and a small LED powered projector on the base of the wand; In addition to the music playing and voice recognition capability mentioned in previous comments, and add the Bluetooth magic to complete the one-of-a kind experience.

Make real astonishing movie with a out-of-the- world magical wand. That’s magic.

I posted this idea in the User Forum (under my username Grymmditch), but I may as well add it here too, in addition to my first comment. ( I’m using my name here as in my first comment so as to not appear to be trying to pose as different customers.)

Laser tag, Kymera style:

Using IR based tag systems, kids armed with Kymera wands can duke it out wizard style.

They’d wear a special receiver plate on their chest and back, just as in laser tag, and the various gestures would register as sundry hexes/jinxes/curses- Avada Kedavra, Stupefy, Expelliarmus, Rictusempra, Tarantallegra, Petrificus, Sectum-Sempra, etc..

(or generic spells if there’s a Trademark issue, but it’d be great to see this as officially licensed Harry Potter merchandise)
-
Also, I thought of two more gestures (in addition to my other comment) that could be added to the Kymera’s library: A figure 8, and an infinity symbol (an “8″ on it’s side), bringing us to 22.
Hopefully I’m suggesting clear movements that are feasibly identifiable to the accelerometer and uCPU.

I see people already mentioned voice recognition.

Make more commands possible. Simply by allowing the basic 13 to be strung together back to back, indefinitely.

Or, have a gesture record mode so gestures and commands become infinite.

Hi,

Speaking from a scientific background, not highly specialised functions, but rather implementable principles would help the act of forthcoming developments most efficiently.

-Therefor i’d like to agree on the storage-option, because this would be the basic for many other features.

- These could for example be represented through the principle of “being audible”. That means, an implemented microphone and/ or speaker could come in handy for many devices like: voice-recorders, megaphones (i was thinking of the Sonorus-spell, that makes your voice louder), mp3-player, even mobile-phone.. don`t stay at the simple voice-recognition. Performing a spell with the Harry Potter Soundtrack playing is much cooler than without. SOUNDEFFECTS is the keyword!
“Being audible” also makes it possible to build in an option to find the wand, if it magically got lost in your room or a sibbling stole it. This could be realised via button at the “loading-station”, that sends a signal making your wand cry out or something ;p

- The “loading station” could therefor be the next principle. The number of functions, that such an electronic station represents is quite large. A very nice example, in my opinion, would be a wifi-adapter. Just use your wand as “antenna”. As its form provides quite some surface, receiving or sending signals of any kind can be amplified. You could even build in some kind of “rechargeable battery” for other kinds of options.

- “Being optical” seems to be a huge project. A cam could serve not only just as a video-cam, but as well as web-cam, digital camera etc. Photograph the shocked faces of bewitched friends or foes!
But not only for gathering data, but also for sending visible signals. Not only a laser-pointer, projection of time, date, small messages and so on can be fun. A really stylish feature would be “Glow in the dark” or other reactions of the wands surface. Like the little matchbox cars, that “Change color when temperature changes”.

- “Defence”: Ever heard of electro-shock-pens? A small switch or button that is only known to the owner can do its own kind of magic^^ (For others: being surprised, for yourself: makes you smile)

Have fun developing, i’m really looking forward to improved or new features of the Kymera Wand :)

Hey,

I think this magic wand could also come in handy if it could be used as pen. Maybe with some sorcerous ink, which disappears after some time or is just visible in the dark etc. So you can leave secrets notes for your friends :) .
In addition to the pen there could also be a stylus at the front of the wand which can be used to use touch screen appliances.
And to complete the pupils pencil case, it would be nice to have an unnoticeable eraser at the back of the wand.

Well I wish you a happy new year and additional creative ideas to make the wand even more magical!

It’s really simple. Just put some neodyme-magnetes in it. Those are awesome, because you can stick your wand to any even slightly magnetic surface. Oh and someone posted a comment on an optical illusion that makes the wand look like it was flying. You could just let it levitate for real with magnetes in it. Like the Levitron from ThinkGeek, but it would look much better with something, that is supposed to not be normal (like a wand).

It would be awesome if the wand could understand just one spell/voice command: Accio Wand or something simillar that would cause the wand to not only light up like said in a previous comment, but also vibrate so if lost, the wand can be easily found.

I also think it would be great if the wand could recognize numbers by tracing them in the air as a tool to jump to a specific channel. (ex. to get to channel 57 simply trace a 5 and then a 7)

Also, the lazer tag type idea is amazing, allowing people to have real wizard duels!

(I know the last 2 are duplicates but they are great ideas!!)

hi folks!
The best idea i could come up with is a hidden box at the lower end of the Kymera Wand. You could put secret items or some kind of candy in it. I think my daughter would love this feature, as it allows you to make something suddenly appear in your hand.

I think the wand needs some additional devices, that makes it usefull aside from just “toying around with it”. The IR could be used as am inch-ruler for example. Or as a thermometer. That way being ill wouldn`t be as bad as it has been before and kids would probably not hate getting their body temperature checked anymore.
A little LCD at the bottom of the wand could then just give out the numbers.

Hi,
I read al the comments and think there is barely space left for new ideas… But far from the traditional use of a wand there is also the possiblity of using it as a chopstick. You would need a second one, maybe without other functions. Honestly spoken it’s not the first thing to think of but it realy could be succesful especially in the Asian countries. Just imagine infiting your friends to a realy magic dinner:)

Hey! What about using the Kymera Wand as pocket lighter? Just as Dumbledore used his put-outer to ignite the street lamps the Kymera Wand could be used to enlucidate romantic candle light dinners…
Perhaps if you have a small lighter at the end of the wand and a flame approachs when flipped open.

It is really hard to imagine something inventive, after all these ideas!

You could make the wand even cooler with fog or bubbles coming out of the top. You know, with some space to fill in liquids or so, so that you can actually see when something happens.

That way the IR wouldn`t be so invisible anymore and you could really scare people by screaming “AVADA KEDAVRA!!” and then pointing your wand at them and shooting red light out of it.

I think this would also be a good feature to combine with other games that are playable with the wand :)

Chirque is right with her idea of having some exceptional applications. How about a toothbrush at the end of the wand which turns it into a survival equipment? I think this is a realy suprising feature!

Hi,
my friend told me all about the Kymera Wand! This idea is so genius. I loved the Harry Potter books, but this gadget will be even better. As my birthday comes closer and closer, i can`t wait to get one.
Like some people already mentioned, it would be great to build in something, so you can still find your wand, whenever it got lost. I am no technical expert, but wouldn’t it be possible, to set up some kind of remote control, that you carry around with your keys then press a button and this somehow calls your wand?

The LCD-idea was nice and i thought of another feature for it. Why not programme the wand with the “20-Questions-Game”, that always guesses your word? That way you can use the wand to do magic, because no one will ever know how you guessed it right. (how does this game work anyways?)

Yeah and another idea of mine is to mutate your wand into a compass. Remember the spell in Harry Potter, that lets your wand point north? Some kind of rack you can place it on, you know. You could even play spin-the-bottle that way ^^.

I really can`t wait till i get a hold of the Kymera Wand!

Wow! What a great invention. I love this wand! And so I would like it if it were possible to downsize the wand, because some people also suggested to use it as car key.
Either you can pull out the wand to its full size or fold it apart.

I’m a little late for this contest but I have a good suggestion: a scabbard / holder for the wand that would disable the wand when it was inside. This can be done with something as simple as a magnet in the scabbard causing a NC reed switch in the wand to open the power circuit.

Dear Wandmaker,
I know I’m too late for the drawing but I still have an idea or two just food for thought, eh?

USB Connection:
As you make improvements and new features to the wand, it would be great if the wand could be connected the USB port and then could automatically seek new updates and basically upgrade itself….that way a person wouldn’t have to keep buying a new wand every time there was a new ability added.

Someone touched on this briefly but not the way I was thinking. An awesome feature would be:

Biometric Identification:
The wand will only work for its proper owner.
-small fingerprint panel on the side…??
-Voice recognition, say out loud a word or phrase and upon successful confirmation, the wand pulsates and is ready for use. If you are NOT the proper owner, the wand emits a slight shock, basically saying ACCESS DENIED…??

Another cool idea:

Mini Rain Sensor:
if the wand could sense barometric changes in the weather like that umbrella can on think geek. A small LED or glow panel will indicate that it’s going to rain…??

Well that’s my shillings worth…lol

Amazing invention y’all….:))
