Dear Wandmaker,
I know I'm too late for the drawing but I still have an idea or two just food for thought, eh?

USB Connection:
As you make improvements and new features to the wand, it would be great if the wand could be connected the USB port and then could automatically seek new updates and basically upgrade itself....that way a person wouldn't have to keep buying a new wand every time there was a new ability added.

Someone touched on this briefly but not the way I was thinking. An awesome feature would be:

Biometric Identification:
The wand will only work for its proper owner.
-small fingerprint panel on the side...??
-Voice recognition, say out loud a word or phrase and upon successful confirmation, the wand pulsates and is ready for use. If you are NOT the proper owner, the wand emits a slight shock, basically saying ACCESS DENIED...??

Another cool idea:

Mini Rain Sensor:
if the wand could sense barometric changes in the weather like that umbrella can on think geek. A small LED or glow panel will indicate that it's going to rain...??

Well that's my shillings worth...lol

Amazing invention y'all....:))

I'm a little late for this contest but I have a good suggestion: a scabbard / holder for the wand that would disable the wand when it was inside. This can be done with something as simple as a magnet in the scabbard causing a NC reed switch in the wand to open the power circuit.

Wow! What a great invention. I love this wand! And so I would like it if it were possible to downsize the wand, because some people also suggested to use it as car key.
Either you can pull out the wand to its full size or fold it apart.

Hi,
my friend told me all about the Kymera Wand! This idea is so genius. I loved the Harry Potter books, but this gadget will be even better. As my birthday comes closer and closer, i can`t wait to get one.
Like some people already mentioned, it would be great to build in something, so you can still find your wand, whenever it got lost. I am no technical expert, but wouldn't it be possible, to set up some kind of remote control, that you carry around with your keys then press a button and this somehow calls your wand?

The LCD-idea was nice and i thought of another feature for it. Why not programme the wand with the "20-Questions-Game", that always guesses your word? That way you can use the wand to do magic, because no one will ever know how you guessed it right. (how does this game work anyways?)

Yeah and another idea of mine is to mutate your wand into a compass. Remember the spell in Harry Potter, that lets your wand point north? Some kind of rack you can place it on, you know. You could even play spin-the-bottle that way ^^.

I really can`t wait till i get a hold of the Kymera Wand!

Chirque is right with her idea of having some exceptional applications. How about a toothbrush at the end of the wand which turns it into a survival equipment? I think this is a realy suprising feature!

It is really hard to imagine something inventive, after all these ideas!

You could make the wand even cooler with fog or bubbles coming out of the top. You know, with some space to fill in liquids or so, so that you can actually see when something happens.

That way the IR wouldn`t be so invisible anymore and you could really scare people by screaming "AVADA KEDAVRA!!" and then pointing your wand at them and shooting red light out of it.

I think this would also be a good feature to combine with other games that are playable with the wand :)

Hey! What about using the Kymera Wand as pocket lighter? Just as Dumbledore used his put-outer to ignite the street lamps the Kymera Wand could be used to enlucidate romantic candle light dinners...
Perhaps if you have a small lighter at the end of the wand and a flame approachs when flipped open.

Hi,
I read al the comments and think there is barely space left for new ideas... But far from the traditional use of a wand there is also the possiblity of using it as a chopstick. You would need a second one, maybe without other functions. Honestly spoken it's not the first thing to think of but it realy could be succesful especially in the Asian countries. Just imagine infiting your friends to a realy magic dinner:)

I think the wand needs some additional devices, that makes it usefull aside from just "toying around with it". The IR could be used as am inch-ruler for example. Or as a thermometer. That way being ill wouldn`t be as bad as it has been before and kids would probably not hate getting their body temperature checked anymore.
A little LCD at the bottom of the wand could then just give out the numbers.

hi folks!
The best idea i could come up with is a hidden box at the lower end of the Kymera Wand. You could put secret items or some kind of candy in it. I think my daughter would love this feature, as it allows you to make something suddenly appear in your hand.

It would be awesome if the wand could understand just one spell/voice command: Accio Wand or something simillar that would cause the wand to not only light up like said in a previous comment, but also vibrate so if lost, the wand can be easily found.

I also think it would be great if the wand could recognize numbers by tracing them in the air as a tool to jump to a specific channel. (ex. to get to channel 57 simply trace a 5 and then a 7)

Also, the lazer tag type idea is amazing, allowing people to have real wizard duels!

(I know the last 2 are duplicates but they are great ideas!!)

It's really simple. Just put some neodyme-magnetes in it. Those are awesome, because you can stick your wand to any even slightly magnetic surface. Oh and someone posted a comment on an optical illusion that makes the wand look like it was flying. You could just let it levitate for real with magnetes in it. Like the Levitron from ThinkGeek, but it would look much better with something, that is supposed to not be normal (like a wand).

Hey,

I think this magic wand could also come in handy if it could be used as pen. Maybe with some sorcerous ink, which disappears after some time or is just visible in the dark etc. So you can leave secrets notes for your friends :).
In addition to the pen there could also be a stylus at the front of the wand which can be used to use touch screen appliances.
And to complete the pupils pencil case, it would be nice to have an unnoticeable eraser at the back of the wand.

Well I wish you a happy new year and additional creative ideas to make the wand even more magical!

Hi,

Speaking from a scientific background, not highly specialised functions, but rather implementable principles would help the act of forthcoming developments most efficiently.

-Therefor i'd like to agree on the storage-option, because this would be the basic for many other features.

- These could for example be represented through the principle of "being audible". That means, an implemented microphone and/ or speaker could come in handy for many devices like: voice-recorders, megaphones (i was thinking of the Sonorus-spell, that makes your voice louder), mp3-player, even mobile-phone.. don`t stay at the simple voice-recognition. Performing a spell with the Harry Potter Soundtrack playing is much cooler than without. SOUNDEFFECTS is the keyword!
"Being audible" also makes it possible to build in an option to find the wand, if it magically got lost in your room or a sibbling stole it. This could be realised via button at the "loading-station", that sends a signal making your wand cry out or something ;p

- The "loading station" could therefor be the next principle. The number of functions, that such an electronic station represents is quite large. A very nice example, in my opinion, would be a wifi-adapter. Just use your wand as "antenna". As its form provides quite some surface, receiving or sending signals of any kind can be amplified. You could even build in some kind of "rechargeable battery" for other kinds of options.

- "Being optical" seems to be a huge project. A cam could serve not only just as a video-cam, but as well as web-cam, digital camera etc. Photograph the shocked faces of bewitched friends or foes!
But not only for gathering data, but also for sending visible signals. Not only a laser-pointer, projection of time, date, small messages and so on can be fun. A really stylish feature would be "Glow in the dark" or other reactions of the wands surface. Like the little matchbox cars, that "Change color when temperature changes".

- "Defence": Ever heard of electro-shock-pens? A small switch or button that is only known to the owner can do its own kind of magic^^ (For others: being surprised, for yourself: makes you smile)

Have fun developing, i'm really looking forward to improved or new features of the Kymera Wand :)

Hi,

Speaking from a scientific background, not highly specialised functions, but rather implementable principles would help the act of forthcoming developments most efficiently.

-Therefor i’d like to agree on the storage-option, because this would be the basic for many other features.

- These could for example be represented through the principle of “being audible”.
Add RF so X10 and other devices can be controlled.

Add a pc/mac/smartphone administrative interface(e.g. usb) so data/commads can be quickly loaded, edited, shared.

I see people already mentioned voice recognition.

Make more commands possible. Simply by allowing the basic 13 to be strung together back to back, indefinitely.

Or, have a gesture record mode so gestures and commands become infinite.

I posted this idea in the User Forum (under my username Grymmditch), but I may as well add it here too, in addition to my first comment. ( I'm using my name here as in my first comment so as to not appear to be trying to pose as different customers.)

Laser tag, Kymera style:

Using IR based tag systems, kids armed with Kymera wands can duke it out wizard style.

They’d wear a special receiver plate on their chest and back, just as in laser tag, and the various gestures would register as sundry hexes/jinxes/curses- Avada Kedavra, Stupefy, Expelliarmus, Rictusempra, Tarantallegra, Petrificus, Sectum-Sempra, etc..

(or generic spells if there's a Trademark issue, but it'd be great to see this as officially licensed Harry Potter merchandise)
-
Also, I thought of two more gestures (in addition to my other comment) that could be added to the Kymera's library: A figure <b>8</b>, and an infinity symbol (an "8" on it's side), bringing us to 22.
Hopefully I'm suggesting clear movements that are feasibly identifiable to the accelerometer and uCPU.
